Over the last three to four months I have begun to get ready for my trek. I have been booking flights, making reservations and wrapping up any possible loose ends. I have begun to turn my once ridiculous idea into a skeleton of a trip. Here are the various preparations I have made up to now:
Initial 3 Flights $1,889:
Depart DCA 7/6 5:35pm; Arrive in Amsterdam 7/7 7:20 AM
Depart Amsterdam 7/10 1:10 PM; Arrive in Moscow 7/10 6:40 PM
Depart Athens 7/28 4:15 PM; Arrive Bangkok 7/29 6:05 AM
Australian Visa $18.00
Indian Visa $125.28
Russan Visa $131.00
Digital Camera w/ 8 GB Memory Card $331.79
Traveler's Insurance for 12 Months $421.20
Quality Hiking Backpack: $350.00
Vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Meneghitis, Typhoid, Tdap, and Malarai Pills: $215.00
Knowing Your Commute Doesnt Exist: Priceless
My Last Day at Work June 27th
My House Lease ends June 30th
Total Costs Before Leaving the Country: $3,418.27
Expected Funds Available Once I Leave the Country: $10,000
Definitely not going to be a cheap trip. And I expect to have to work abroad some to get enough money to get me through the year. I'll be able to work at hostels or bars or farms to pick up some coin. I dont plan on working till I get to Australia or somewhere where the currency is strong. In any case, should be a good time. And I'm looking forward to it's beginning.
